Become a Mill Volunteer
Our volunteer teams are the vital cogs that keep the Mill and Nature Reserve running. Without them we could not survive. Can you spare 2-3 hours a month to join the teams which enable us to open the Mill to visitors?
If you only have limited time, can you give a morning or afternoon once or twice a year to help at our steam fairs?
There are lots of opportunities to use current skills or learn new ones in a friendly and supportive atmosphere.
We have a wide range of teams that you can support (click on each to learn more):
The Mill has a wide variety of records, could you help preserve and display the documents and objects detailing the Mill’s history and help to prepare exhibitions and displays throughout the year?
Work with visiting schools and organisations, and design and run events, to help children enjoy and appreciate the Mill and Nature Reserve.
The Mill requires rigorous checks to keep it safe and running smoothly. We will provide all the training you need to ensure that we keep the Mill safe for our visitors and volunteers.
Ensure our technology is running effectively and publicise Mill events to the outside world. Keeping the website fresh and up to date.
Our Kingfisher shop is a great place to pick up the perfect gift, little keepsake or (best of all) a bag of Mill flour. We're looking for friendly, helpful people to keep our shop open!
Do have have a flair for design? Could you help us produce imaginative posters, leaflets, press releases, publicity (including social media) and plan and put on a wide variety of events from workshops to concerts, to attract visitors from increasingly further afield.
The Mill is a busy place, with lots going on, and lots of work needed to keep it in perfect running order. From putting up signs to oiling the machinery - the Mill needs looking after! If you're handy at DIY, can you help?
The Major Events Team is responsible for planning, organising, implementing and managing the Spring Fair and Working Steam Weekends which attract thousands of visitors to the Mill each year. Join the team, and help make our future events something to talk about!
Stotfold Mill is a little piece of living history and has so many stories to tell. Help us keep history alive for future generations by becoming a Mill Guide. Learn the stories, tell the tales, and keep the wheels of history turning.
We need help in ensuring the machinery runs efficiently and that our quality stone-ground flour is produced regularly. As well as helping with running he machinery on our open days, we also need people to help with bagging the flour and oats.
Randall's Tea Room is a key part of any Mill visit, serving homemade cakes, tea, coffee and soft drinks. It's a popular and busy part part of the Mill! Could you be part of the Tea Room Team, keeping our visitors refreshed?
Could you help us carry out conservation work on the Nature Reserve as well as other green areas of Stotfold? We also need help in equipment maintenance and the monitoring of wildlife via regular surveys.
Key to everything the mill does is our volunteers, could you help us recruit and retain volunteers, including organising the volunteer rotas for major events, organising social events and maintaining the volunteer database?
