Next Sunday, 19 May 2019, sees the launch of the walking route of the Etonbury Green Wheel.  Stotfold Mill will be one of the starting points for 3 walks that will lead to the Green Wheel “hub” at Etonbury Wood. This is where the official opening will take place and full details of event programme and timings can be found at Bedfordshire Rural Communities website at

What is the Etonbury Green Wheel?

Developed as a walking and cycling route around Arlesey, Fairfield and Stotfold, the Etonbury Wheel passes through areas of landscape, heritage and wildlife interest. The walking route is now all in place and stretches some 10.6 miles/17 km. There are several “spokes” leading from the settlements to allow the Green Wheel to be walked in shorter sections. Further works are planned for the coming years to enable paths to be upgraded and promoted for cycling.

‘Walking is Man’s Best Medicine’ – Hippocrates

It’s no great secret that walking anywhere is good for you. Walking through woods and countryside can properly lift the spirits. Simply by walking quietly and slowly we can really benefit from taking in the sounds, sights and changing colours of the countryside.

With the introduction of the Etonbury Green Wheel, Stotfold, Arlesey and Fairfield residents and visitors can now enjoy all these benefits right on our doorsteps.

*All walks start at 1pm and start locations are as follows:

  • Mill Lane, Arlesey (adjacent to the Railway Footbridge)
  • The Obelisk, East Orchard off Palmerstone Way, Fairfield
  • Stotfold Mill, Mill Lane, Stotfold
