Kingfisher Gift Shop

We stock the work of local craftspeople, from wood turning and leather work to glassware - spare pieces of timber from the Mill's re-build have been used by George Arnold to make beautifully turned wooden bowls, pens, fruit and clocks.

On the food side, we have a range of preserves, chutneys, and old fashioned sweets from Annie's of Letchworth, and, of course, our own stone-ground flour (see below). We stock various recipe books and local history books. "The Windmills and Watermills of Bedfordshire" at £8.99, has a large section devoted to Stotfold Mill with good colour photos. "The Bedfordshire Clanger", a locally made short film on DVD, combines cycling interest with Beds' claim to culinary fame. Our very own guide book, with a history of the Mill and its restoration, technical information and illustrations and excellent photos of the various attractions, at £3.00 it is a very readable guide.

We have attractive mugs, cards, post-cards, fridge magnets and trolley coins. Children can spend their pocket-money on a new and colourful range of pencils, pens and erasers. Clothes and tea-towels featuring the Mill's logo are on sale. Why not buy our useful and very sturdy bag for life to carry your purchases home?

New Products

The range from Hitchin Lavender proved so popular before Christmas that we have restocked with various toiletries and lavender bags. You can revive the lost art of letter writing with our new notelets or blank cards from a beautiful range by Pat Holding of Norfolk. These illustrate the flora and fauna of the wild life reserve in mid-summer.

Apple Paddock, a local family business, is now providing us with pickles and jams, made where possible with produce from the owners' garden.

Three new crafts ladies have joined us - some gorgeous jewelry from Navajo Beading, distinctive painted items from Angela and Christine's Rosy Crafts and marvelous mice made by Jan Radford.

Creative talent runs in the family - Jackie Radford has come up with some brilliant designs for her hand-made cards. There are also new wooden and wood-turned gifts. We think that in our third year we have the best selection yet. Please come to browse and be tempted to buy.

Stotfold Mill Flour

Milling was in full swing last year to produce strong, stone-ground, plain flour (either wholemeal or natural white). The hard wheat variety is "Cordiale" - it is recommended for use mainly in breadmaking, either by hand or with a machine. Our flour bag has a design taken from Geoff Hoile's beautiful and informative vignettes of the grain cycle, displayed on the stones floor. We are proud of our final product with low food miles, no additives, and milled using natural waterpower and traditional methods. Our plain flour sells for £2.00 wholemeal and £2.15 for natural white per 1.5kg bag (subject to availability). We also have bran in 250 and 500gram bags, for 30p and 60p.

Outside stockists of flour include Beale Bros, Regent St, Stotfold, Chapman's Butchers of Baldock, and Campbell and Toft of Leys Avenue, Letchworth G.C.(wholemeal only).

Last year's harvest is now safely stored away and waiting for this year's milling days.

... and Oats

Introducing two new products from the Mill - Rolled Oats and Oats with 5% added bran. Both are good for a healthy breakfast. Local oats are fed twice through the oat crusher to produce a medium mix. The 90-year-old machine works at a leisurely pace, so if there are none available in the Kingfisher shop, please ask.

Plain rolled oats are £1.80 per 1.5kg and oats with bran are £1.70 per 1.5kg bag. Once again Geoff Hoile has designed the label!
